It is simply amazing the memories a handful of memories that an arrangement of words will pull to the forefront.
Take today for example, a customer mentioned Marshall Mat Dillon. Instantly my mind flew to The song "I should have been a Cowboy." And the lyrics "I bet you never heard old Marshall Dillon say, Miss Kitty have you ever thought of runnin away, settlin down would you marry me, if I asked you twice and begged you pretty please." And yes, this is a country song. It is also a song that was played prior to every Cowboy game at Lewis Field.
That's right Lewis Field. I am old school OSU, back before the brand was slanted and set on fire.
Here I sit at the bank suddenly dreaming of hot chocolate, the waving song, Bullet, and Pistol Pete. I posted a what Orange means to me statement earlier this fall, but it left out so many things.
It forgot the parade, the chants, the spirit. Chalking on Thursday night.
It left out the People that make OSU what it is to me. People I still speak to on a regular basis, Rose, Miranda, and obviously Grant. And those that have gotten lost along the way, Alissa, Michael, Jessi, Walter, and Joe.
It left out epic walks to the Virtual Bean, my first taste of Oregon Chai. Late night milk and cookie runs to Bennet Deli. Spending swipes at 20 something for Beef Jerky and Pepsi.
To those who do not refer to them selves as 'Pokes' this may seem strange, but this fall I may just find a way to go back where I belong, Sit on the 30 and wave Bullet in.
It is time to go home.
