I am a real life employee!
After temping since mid-Feb at SAI as of 8/3 I am an employee. At last the job limbo is over. I am elligeble for benifits. I know I will be here next week. Things are looking up!
Whats my age again, whats my age again?
Working at the skating rink has caused me to wonder what age I truly appear. The kids that work there tend to think I am in my mid 30's to early 40's. Now I will be the first to admit that working with teens does make me feel very old and out of touch. The things they do, say, and text freak me out. When I was their age I swear I was not this 'active'. Hell half the things that happen were so far off my radar that I had no idea anyone was doing these things.
Recently I had two interesting incidents:
Friday I was asked for 'motherly' advice by a tween girl, simply because I look like 'the mothering type' (her words, not mine). This really caught me off guard. Really? How do you look like a mothering type? Evidently she had loaned out her cell phone (with out telling her mother) to her boyfriend of 2 weeks with the understanding that he would return it to her at the rink. Naturally this did not happen. For the life of me I cannot understand why these kids need cell phones. Particularly a nice cell phone with Internet and texting. It was not long ago parents were putting cyber nannies on computers to keep kids away from predators, who monitors the cell? But I digress.
Saturday I was accused of being a 'teenager' with a 'teenage attitude' by a father (his words, not mine). I am still unsure how to process this one. I haven't been a teenager in almost a decade. Do I look like a teen? I dress the same as the managers, not the teens who work concessions / floor guards. The funny part is that I had no contact with this parent prior to this. It had become clear upon this persons arrival that they would be a problem. When this happens I choose to default to a member of management staff to deal with them. It is pretty sad when you are so self centered that you cannot stop having the world revolve around you and try to keep your chid's birthday party a conflict free event.
Over the course of 12 hours I had aged backwards nearly 10 years. Perhaps I am the curious case of Benjamin Button (not that I have any desire to see that movie).
What a month - months.
After the server crashed at work, Grandma had open heart surgery, Grandma had a stroke, Cindy thought she had a heart attack, I took over merch, and all that. I just feel like I need a week on the beach to unwind. It has been a week of darting and dashing. Getting excited about regionals in October. Tho this is the first time in a long time I have doubted myself about my derby prepared-ness. I almost feel like a newbie ref. As usual that is all I have time to write. Maybe in the next month life will slow down a bit. I can hope any way.
Well at long last our saga with NCIS has ended. Tuesday after one year and 26 days our items were returned. At last a chapeter to close. What a relif. One would think I would have more to say about this. But today I have a big cloud of worry floating six inches above my head.
The dominating thing in my life is that Grandma is back in the hospital. This time with a stroke. Less than one month after open heart surgery.
July 23 our server @ work crashed and wiped out all our records from July 1 foward. As a result I have been working lots of overtime. I havent seen much of anyone. I havent even seen Grandma.
I feel so guilty.
Plus she had a stroke. Strokes creep me out. It is like a stroke erases part of a person. You can see it. Its creepy.
Work shows no sign of letting up soon. So much to be done. Loads of overtime in my future still.
Well, this blog thing is sucking here lately isn't it dear readers. I think it is safe to say my life just might be at last living on Tulsa Time.
Yes friends, in some ways life moves at a slower pace... however the family obligations are always 'round the bend. I have been doing my share of barn raising, vegetable gardening, and chopping down trees, well sort of. My parents new place has a barn, but the walls were rotting so Dad is re-doing it. Mom is planting a vegetable garden, I hope to get more out of it than just this sunburn. A few weeks ago we had some wicked wind that hit like 80mph sustained - we lost some limbs.
Marshall Brewing Co opened up at long last! I have tried all three of the beers that have been released so far. The sundown wheat is my favorite.
Grants work schedule has changed again. We are not at home at the same time as often now but we do get to see each other more so far that seems to be working well. Speaking of work I am now a employee of Nameplates Inc. And I did get a raise! As a result my hours at the rink have been cut back considerably.
Relay for life went well. I hit my $300 goal and feel pretty good about that! Thanks to all my Friends and family that made that possible. GCRG had a great time and we were able to help fight the fight against cancer.
Tomorrow I will be attending a contest at the Historic Cains Ballroom to cheer on my best friend of 26 years as she sings her heart out. Not only does she sing but she colors my hair any time I get the urge!
Oh and I should be back on skates in another week! My shoulder is almost fully recovered!
It is now time for me to prepare for another work day. But I will leave you with this.
Come visit me. I promise a sunset you cant find any where else on land.
not much going on these days to report.
I am working 2 jobs and then derby so thats more like 3. Its cool. Hoping things will level out on the near future. My birthday is sunday and I could not be less excited if I tried. So yeah, going to finish this beer, play some rock band and hit the bed. V day is tommrow and I need some sleep.
Feeling quite dicouraged at the moment. I am HATING my job and craving ANY excuse to escape. I am desprately wanting to go to the bar and just kick back with a beer, but I am lacking drinking buddies, they are either gone or otherwise occupied. So anyway, here's to me! Cheers!
Yup, me. Came home for lunch today to find a summons taped to the door. This is in reguard to a stolen check that someone tried to cash at my window... yay. I am a witness. So what happens when one goes to court?
I am starting the new job early... to be exact I will start Monday. One week early. I had not expected for this transfer to be so bitter-sweet. I had really looked froward to full time pay and hours. But I am really going to miss my co-workers and my clients. But it will be so, so nice to forgo the hour commute. The worst part is Grant will be gone on my first day. It would be so nice to have him here to come home to that first week. It sounds like he has settled on a career path. BAPD. The hours are long, but compared to what we deal with now, no biggie, huh? 707 days and counting until Grant will be a civilian. Cant wait!
I have been given an offer with 1.5, I will be working .5 miles from home and will be full time with 10 days paid vacation, 40 hours weekly, and a .60 raise working out to be 24.40 a week more, not counting the added hours and savings in fuel!
Not sure how much of this has made the blog in the past 2 weeks.
First of all I am posting out of my current position. Shortly before Christmas a new teller was hired, as a result my hours were cut: in half, I went from 40 hours a week to 20, I began doing odd jobs to gain extra hours, so far I have maintained 30 a week, minimum. Anywho, Last night I had a phone interview, today I have an in person interview, and next week two more, then I will need to choose.
Secondly, we know where we will be for the next two years, and the remainder of Grant's enlistment. We will be here, he will be on the Barry. BLAH. Cant say I am thrilled, but I am not crushed either. We have friends here and I do have a job with room to improve. So I guess it is not that bad, I was just ready for a change of scenery, but this will help us to save $ so that after this is over we can move home and buy a house, or who knows maybe even take a honeymoon. HA! Oh well, more time to explore DC!
What utter BULL SHIT! Why does a place (more specifically a bank) have strict rules if there are a billion exceptions? No third party checks, period. Unless you have more than a mill then we will bend over backwards to make you happy. Fuck the rule book, lets torch the damn thing! Oh, you like anal sex? Let me bend over... no I don't need any lube! Seriously if you have rules EVERYONE should have the same rule. This way there is NO mistakes or mix-ups. Maybe I am crazy. But when day in day out we hear no we do not accept third party checks... and then Mr. Big Bucks with bad attitude comes up and wants to do a third part check you follow the rules and then when he complains that we are 'hassling' him and then you the innocent employee who is just following the 'set in stone' rules get treated like an incompetent piece of shit all because you are doing what you have been trained to do... well, it just sucks.
And another thing... Mr Cheap-ass 3 piece suit, thumbprints they are required at most every bank if you do not have an account. Most people are ok with it, but you 'sir' and many other nutters out there feel that after you are done thumb printing the check it is then expected and required to then proceed to wipe the 'ink' (I use this term loosely due to the fact that it is a powder and will simply wipe right off if you only had to brain cells to rub together and listen when I say "just rub your fingers together it comes right off it is a powder") all over my counter or stuff. I now have a black powder residue wiped all over promotional adds, computers, and anything else you can reach. This makes me look messy. Now the next thing that most likely will happen is someone will walk up and plop their baby down on my counter, this child will get hands on this powder mixed with you sweat and then suck on their tiny little thumb... and get powder in their mouth. All because you are a filthy waste of oxygen who is too worried about himself to think of others, NOT kosher! As a matter of FACT IT IS JUST PLAIN RUDE!
