Love Hurts Recap - by Hailey Hawkeye GCRG Ref

Last night Central Arkansas Roller Derby (CARD) traveled to Broken Arrow Roller Sports to meet Oklahoma's own Green Country Roller Girls competing for the win in the "Love Hurts" Bout.

Broken Arrow Roller Sports was packed and the fans were hungry for some derby action. It was obvious that GCRG has some loyal fans. Rosie the Wrecker had a hulk-eske cheering section matching her hulk-like face for the evening. Syko Path too had a cheering section complete with Green Wigs and 'S-Y-K-O' spelled out across their chests.

As CARD took the track for warm ups they remind us of our early bouts still learning the ropes but hungry to get started.

GCRG entered with Project Huckleberry leading the way. The tribal sound of the drums seemed to feed the crowds energy. Both teams were ready to go. By half-time GCRG had already grossed 100 hard earned points.

During halftime both leagues took a look over what was working, what could be improved. Bruise Whisperer from CARD was added as the jammer for more jams in the second period. You could tell she was happy to be there. She is now the first Jammer this referee has ever seen smile for an entire period in spite of how things were going. You can just see it, this girl loves Roller Derby. Not to be over shadowed GCRG took this lead to practice less refined skills like passing the star (this rarely happens) and Syko Path did a brilliant job, she even Jammed a few times. And on referee side note I called my first ever high block as a ref for GCRG.

CARD never showed any signs of frustration or a need for reprieve which is something to say for a brand new team taking on a more established league. We here at Green Country are very proud of how hard they tried and how they kept their spirits high. Next time we meet I am certain they will have grown as a team and will have some new tricks up their sleeve. Until then. Happy Rolling.
